What is Colorize?
Colorize is an AI tool that adds believable colour to black-and-white photographs. It runs the DeOldify model, which has been trained on millions of historical reference images and learned plausible palettes for faces, clothing, foliage, sky, and architecture from different decades. You drop a monochrome scan or photo into the dropzone and the model returns a fully coloured version with natural skin tones, period-appropriate fabric colours, and atmospheric sky gradients. It is the easiest way to bring family albums, historical photographs, and 19th- or 20th-century archive prints back to life — and the most-used companion to the Photo Restore app. The output keeps the original composition and contrast and never pushes colour into oversaturated territory. For best results upload a clean scan; if the original is also damaged, run Photo Restore first to denoise and sharpen, then Colorize to add the palette.
